The story of our honey
We are always excited to offer our DT's Bees Honey. Our raw artisan honey is harvested between December and March each year and every hive is processed as its own small batch.
It takes 12 bees their lifetime to make one teaspoon of honey and it takes approximately one million flower visits to produce 1kg. Luckily we have a lot of bees and a lot of flowers! Our bees enjoy the flowers in farm pastures, beautiful lifestyle block gardens, berry fields, and neighborhood properties in and around Sandy Knolls, Rolleston, West Melton, Lincoln and Tai Tapu. The main honey flow in our area happens from November until late January where the bees will collect nectar, convert it to honey with bee enzymes and dehydrate it. When it's perfect, they will produce a layer of wax to seal it in the cell. DT monitors the quantity of honey in the hives, to ensure there is always enough for the bees as this is their winter food which they have worked hard for. The surplus is what we harvest, extract and package for you. We present our raw liquid and creamed honey in recyclable 250g, 500g or 1kg glass jars. Our new season Comb Honey is now packaged in 100% biodegradable packaging. Thank you for choosing DT's Bees honey.
